Why does the western press find it so difficult to understand Putin’s motivation and intentions ?
Putin with the support of the Duma and a large proportion of Russian Federation people have become fed up with the USA and its allies ring-fencing and pressurising their homeland. (not forgetting sanctions)
The howling and handwringing from journalists is sickening when Putin has unequivocally stated his intentions.
He has stated his support for the Assad regime, it couldn’t be simpler. So let’s look at a little military strategy.
Tartus (naval) and Latakia (airforce) are Russian bases. Therefore the most obvious strategy is to secure them from attack and ensure that roads and communication between them are secure.
If they’re not recognized Assad troops, they WILL be “sanitized”.
Stage two will be to take out any opposition surrounding Damascus and the seat of government.
Stage three will be to mop up opposition forces in the rest of the country.
Russia doesn’t care which tribe of rebels they attack, their simple objective is to restore the Assad regime and they are quoting legitimate UN rules to do so.
They have been invited in by the legitimate Syrian government. Sorry Yanks, since Vietnam you can’t argue against that.
No war in history has been won by bombing alone. Bombing merely softens the ground for occupation forces. So the hard part is Stage three. We in the West balk at that bit because we don’t like our boys arriving home in body-bags.
The Russians aren’t too keen on that part either BUT they now have allies. Iranian troops can’t wait to get stuck in for the glory of Allah. Hizbollah like a bit of slaughter, so they’re chomping at the bit. Then we have Chechnya looking for a bit of payback against head-lopping rebels
China has also thrown its hat into the ring and as well as parking a carrier and two frigates at Tartus, there are rumours that they will deploy troops.
Altogether that is enough troops to take Syria.
What absolute dim-witted arrogance of the first magnitude.
If this is indicative of Yank attitudes, we’re in deep shit.
Hopefully it isn't and at least Obama has shown restraint.
What now? How can the USA and its allies respond to that? Any attempt by the West to respond militarily WILL escalate to WWIII proportions.
The first contact between US and Russian hardware or of any of the allies involved can only result in escalation.
Western warplane sorties over Syria now risk direct contact with Russian warplanes. Russia are actually in Syria, the West is not. The Russian allies have also set up a co-ordinating command centre in Baghdad of all places.
The USA must be aware of the strategic ramifications of this. With Syria in Russian hands, Iraq could also fall to Iran and Lebanon to Hizbollah. The worst bug in the ointment is fuck your mother Netanyahoo. He’s now facing the loss of a homeland that was taken by terrorism and property theft from 1946 and has been persecuting Arabs ever since. He also has nukes and is crazy enough to be the first to use them.
To me, chosen people are as distasteful as master races, so if boatloads of Israelis decide to escape, the USA is where they should go and set up a homeland on Dubya’s ranch.
A nation that creates billionaires but won’t tax them to pay for an adequate health service or humane treatment of its poorest citizens, is morally bankrupt and deserves isolation.
Europe (including Britain) does not need a US led NATO. It needs to form its own defence organization wholly dedicated to the defence of the European Union. If Syria escalates, it won’t be the USA which suffers, it’ll be any European nation stupid enough to side with them.
Remember WWI history ? Alliances which then dragged in the member nations sparked by the assassination of a single archduke. Read "The Lions of July" for a parallel to what's happening now.
The world has changed overnight. The USA should return to pre WWII isolationism, Europe should focus on the unity of its members and stop relying on the USA to drop us in the shit economically, militarily and socially. I don’t want to see a fucking MacDonalds in Paris, we don’t need Google, Facebook or Twitter and are perfectly capable of creating our own social networks and search engines without the benefit of NSA snooping.
OR we keep following the USA and….
